Oh no! Writers block at DP Web Development

Well here I am, back in England and enjoying the sunshine in my back garden.

It’s nice to be able to work outside! Typing away on my lap top. Creative juices flowing, buoyed by the fresh air and warmth. Energised by the sun beaming down on my face, tanning nicely as I write. Pure poetry oozing from my body like sweat.

Except I’ve got writers block. Somewhere in my head there is another stellar blog post. It’s just that I can’t find it. Damn!

This could be the shortest blog post on record!

And you know what…there’s no point in forcing it. The more you sit there trying to force an idea the harder it is. Better to walk away and come back. Do something different. A change of scenery is often all you need. So they say. Walk away and come back.  Go for a walk around the block.

It’s not uncommon. Everyone has writers block from time to time. Even the best. So I’m not alone, I’m in good company. J K Rowling famously had it. And now so do I. Two good examples.

It’s just so annoying. It’s there I can feel it.  Just out of reach. Like that scratch right in the middle of your back exactly where you can’t reach and if this happens to you a lot (like it does me) invest in a back scratcher. It’s a life saver.

So I look around the garden for inspiration. Mmm the grass needs cutting again… Those weeds need sorting out….I wonder if I should get rid of that bush in the corner….I can hear the neighbours, I think they might be drinking. I wonder what they’re drinking… I’m feeling thirsty now. I wonder what drinks I have in the…wait, keep focused God dammit. I’m meant to thinking of something interesting to write about. Maybe a drink will give me energy. Or maybe I should withhold and it can be a reward when I think of a subject.

I do that sometimes. When faced with a task my mind starts wondering until I find an excuse to do something else. Like go and get a drink, check my Facebook….ooh my friend enjoyed her chicken soup last night….my Twitter account…my friend is wondering what to have for lunch. Is it that time already. I’m hungry now. Wait.Focus. Something will spring to my mind. Any moment…..

………………………………………………………………….

May be not.

Now a whole morning has nearly gone.

And that is the problem. Call it what you like but that is time wasted. I should have gone and done something else useful rather than staring at this blank screen. I do have a vice. I admit it. Everyone does it from time to time. I procrastinated and wasted time getting drinks (they were nice though). The trick is to keep it to minimum. And for the love of God I am trying and, let’s be honest, I am succeeding in small steps.

Ok it’s time to get proactive. I’m going to nail this. I‘m going to write the best post you’ve ever seen.

After I‘ve been for a walk.
